Molten Steel Tundish

Machinesol’s Offers all types of Tundish that help to save the wastage of steel by promoting uniformity. Machinesol’s tundish is a critical component in the continuous casting process of molten metals, primarily used in the steel industry. It serves as a temporary reservoir that allows for a smooth, uninterrupted flow of molten metal from a ladle to the mold in the continuous casting machine. The tundish plays a crucial role in improving the quality of the cast products and reducing defects in the final steel products.

Structure and Components of Tundish

  • Reservoir
  • Inlet and Outlet Ports
  • Impact Plates
  • Temperature Monitoring Device

Functions of Tundish

  • Homogenization: One of the primary functions of a tundish is to ensure the homogenization of the molten metal. By allowing the metal to rest temporarily in the tundish, any temperature gradients, chemical variations, or impurities in the molten metal can be reduced or eliminated.
  • Flow Control: The tundish controls the flow of molten metal from the ladle to the mold. It ensures a steady, consistent flow, preventing sudden surges or disruptions in the casting process, which can lead to defects in the final product.
  • Inclusion Removal: Inclusions, such as non-metallic particles or impurities, tend to float to the surface of the molten metal in the tundish, where they can be skimmed off or trapped by special refractory materials.
  • Temperature Control: Temperature sensors and monitoring systems in the tundish help maintain the molten metal at the desired casting temperature, crucial for achieving consistent product quality.
